Our Vision

The duty of the astrologer

The primary affirmation of any astrologer is the Hermetic axiom “As above, so below; as below, so above” – The Kybalion.   This principle embodies the truth of the correspondence between the various planes of Being and life.  The Psalmist expressed it beautifully: “The heavens tell of the glory of God; And their expanse declares the work of His hands” (Ps. 19:1, NASB).  The duty of the astrologer is in part to learn the basics of chart calculation according to laws of astronomy and physics, to synthesize the mythological and other associated meanings for which the celestial objects were named, to understand the heavenly structure from several points of view, and to share this with others.

After an extensive survey of the many astrological software programs since the invention of the home computer, we have explored the various approaches, techniques, displays of data, etc., of both Western and Eastern astrologers, and we’ve learned much.  We encourage everyone to make the same or similar journey.

Our focus

At Astro Precise Services (APS), we have focused on developing original products that we believe will help inform astrologers to interpret charts more effectively for their clients.  To that end, this requires:

1)  Providing the most precise calculation of celestial objects and other points within the natal/event chart utilizing the gold standard JPL Horizons API access.  The ephemeris results are the latest and most accurate available to the astrologer, unlike those generated by the popular Swiss Ephemeris (SE)-based software programs that rely mostly on a standalone JPL ephemeris.  For some calculations described in our product Natal Chart Calculations, e.g., house cusps, mean and “true” nodes, etc., we use the SE. For more information regarding the difference in our calculations and what is currently available with astrology software, refer to our Comparison List under Articles, especially here.

2)  Employing a necessary mathematical formula that recognizes the longitude of the observer in the conversion of civil or wall-clock time to Universal Time (UT) and vice versa to determine the precise position of those objects and other points.  Since the implementation of railroad or standard time in 1883, astrologers who erect charts that are based upon this wall-clock time, whether by hand or computer-generated printouts, have not recognized the observer’s location and his proper orientation to the heavenly structure.  A close look at any of these charts will reveal this lamentable lack of recognition.  We are happy to announce that we have the solution to this widespread major problem.  Even so, in the interest of transitioning to our method, we will accommodate any customer’s choice to bypass this recognition – in other words, to calculate the planets the standard way.

3)  Carefully selecting approximately 500 objects (a few user-selectable) to analyze and interpret, of which selection we believe provides a better means of understanding the chart as a whole.  At APS we believe MORE is better, not less, and that there are much better ways to display scores of objects than cramming them into a wheel with glyphs difficult to associate with the objects.

4)  Stressing the importance of aspects between objects by utilizing MORE (32 total) than any of the astrological programs that exist today.  We believe the display of all these aspects between and among the objects to be one of  the most effective ways to properly interpret the chart.

5)  Promoting the use of a lesser known and, yes, nondiscriminatory House System (the Meridian or Axial Rotation) as our preference.  We believe everyone deserves to have a chart that can be calculated no matter where he or she is born or lives.  This is not always possible with the most popular house systems.  In our research and personal experience, the Meridian has proved to be the best, although we will accommodate any other choice of our customers.

6)  Honoring the discovery date/time, the observatory, the discoverer(s), etc., of all the objects used within the chart and the officially recognized source for this information – the Minor Planet Center (MPC).

We hope to have achieved our goal and will continue to offer the absolute best to the astrological community.
